Rutherglen is important in the development history of the Blackett area, as part of William Frederick Emert’s original Land grant associated with Siglingen. The house is important as the only house in Blackett that predates the residential housing subdivision of the area in 1972. Rutherglen is a rare remaining example of the Interwar free classical housing style in Blacktown, reflected in both significant interior and exterior detail. The building has high social significance as location of Aboriginal community activities and initiatives after the social integration housing policy was established in Blackett in the 1970’s subdivision of the area. |
