History
Was originally known as Forrester after an early landholder Robert Forrester who was granted 30 acres at Mulgrave Place in 1794. In the 1920s the local Progress Association changed the name to Maraylya which is presumed to be an Aboriginal name, but the meaning is unknown.
Maraylya Public School operated as a provisional school from November 1868 until 1871 and again from August 1874 until May 1880, was upgraded to public school in June 1880 until the present. The school was known as North Rocks until September 1895, then as Forrester until October 1920 when it was renamed Maraylya. (hawkesbury.org)
