Oakhurst – Blacktown Native Institution

The school was opened at Parramatta in January 1815. A second native institution was established near the present day intersection of Rooty Hill Road North and Richmond Road in 1823 and ran until 1829. This later institution was a two storey building with two large rooms downstairs, four small bedrooms, two outside rooms, a verandah, separate kitchen, stable and coach house. In 1829 the school was closed for the last time and the children were transferred to Cartwright at Liverpool. image
