St Marys – Moore Cottage

The general area forms part of the 600 acres granted to Mary Putland, the daughter of former Governor William Bligh in 1806. The grant was named Frogmore Farm. The land associated with the cottage formed part of Lot 39 (over five acres) of the subdivision acquired by farmer Thomas Shadlow in 1856. In 1872, two acres of Shadlow’s land, and probably inclusive of the cottage, was sold to John Burgess. In the early 1920s the cottage was tenanted by local woodcutter George Thomas Moore and his wife Catherine. The Moore family association continued until 2001. The site was purchased by CMS Pty Ltd in 2002 and was redeveloped for townhouses retaining the restored and reconstructed historic cottage. image
