Blacktown – Sunnyholt Road No.2 Overbridge

The Sunnyholt Road Overbridge was constructed in 1955 as part of the quadruplication project. It was the first pre-stressed concrete railway overbridge used over NSW railway tracks. The Department of Railways established its own pre-stressed concrete works on the site of Marsh Bros Tannery at Granville in the early 1950s, having acquired the site in 1949 initially for main line quadruplication. It is probable that the girders for the Sunnyholt Road underbridge were manufactured by the Department in its own workshop. The 1955 railway owned bridge is adjacent to one owned by Blacktown City Council built in 1978. image
