The site for Parklea Prison was announced in August 1978 and construction commenced in 1980 as a result of recommendations made in the Nagle Inquiry into NSW Prisons. Lindsay Kelly of Government Architects Branch, NSW Department of Public Works prepared the design. The complex was completed in 1983 at a cost of $38.5 million. The complex won the 1984 Sulman Award for excellence in design presented by Royal Australian Institute of Architects under the Public Buildings category. | ![]() |
