Richards – Riverstone Meatworks

In 1878 Benjamin Richards, a grazier and butcher from Richmond, purchased land adjacent to the railway line and established a beef slaughterhouse employing four slaughtermen, the beginning of the Riverstone Meatworks. The Meatworks was to expand greatly and become the chief employer for the Riverstone District till it closed in c1994. image
